Newtonian fluids are the easiest to measure. Their viscosity only differs when the fluid’s temperature changes. Non Newtonian fluids are also time and force dependent. When the amount of force influences viscosity special equipment will be required.
Flow cups and capillary are mainly used in production environments where the non-Newtonian properties of a product are not required to be known exactly. However in research, where these values are a must-have, there will be bigger challenges. In these cases more advanced rotary viscosity meters are required. They allow the user to exactly determine the amount of force that is applied on the fluid.
